Three saunas, one evening

A guided sauna crawl along the Helsinki waterfront. A public sauna, a design sauna by the sea, a smoke sauna to finish, with a sea dip between rounds.

How it runs

  1. 17:00Meet, towels and robes handed out, a two-minute guide to sauna etiquette.
  2. 17:30Sauna one: the classic public sauna.
  3. 19:00Sauna two: by the sea, with a dip.
  4. 20:30The smoke sauna, then dinner at the last stop.

What to know

  • Mixed groups wear swimwear in public saunas.
  • Nobody is pushed into the sea. Watching is a valid choice.
  • It works all year. The winter sea dip is the one people talk about.

Good for

Visiting teams, client evenings, anyone new to Finland.

Not for

Groups who want a quiet seated dinner all evening.

Questions planners ask

Do we have to be naked?

No. In public saunas mixed groups wear swimwear, and private saunas follow whatever your group prefers.

Is it safe to swim in the sea in winter?

Dips are short and supervised, and nobody has to do it. Anyone with a heart condition should check with their doctor first.

How do you handle large groups?

We split them across saunas and rotate, so nobody waits outside.

Thinking of doing this?

Borrow the idea, it's yours. If you'd like a hand, or just a second opinion on whether it suits your group, write to me. I produce ideas like this one at Sorry, No Polar Bears, a Helsinki studio I co-run.
